FIRST HOSPITAL OF CURITIBA COMPLETES 135 YEARS

On the day of commemoration of 135 years of the Santa Casa, celebrated on May 22nd, a solemnity reopened the historic part of the building. Considered a Preservation Interest Unit by the Curitiba City Hall, the hospital was the first in the capital, its restoration lasted about seven years, encouraged by the “Rouanet Law” and was only possible due to the support of individuals and corporations that donated a percentage of their income tax. The result was a great job that kept the original features of the building and revealed to the public original pieces of the history of the city. In the opening event were present the Marista Groups officials; the architect responsible for this renovation, Claudio Forte Maiolino; the president of Cultural Foundation of Curitiba, Marcos Cordiolli and the mayor, Gustavo Fruet.

Historical and cultural heritage, the building is from the middle of the century IXX and which was inaugurated by Emperor Dom Pedro II in 1880, has undergone renovations, adaptations and even partial restorations. In addition to cultural importance, recovery will provide improvements in the care provided to the Paraná Population.  The project enabled the complete renovation of the roofs, the chapel and the floors of the upper corridors. The project was esteemed approximately 2.1 million dollars. Of this total, nearly 1.7 million dollars were raised.

That includes the most recent sponsorship of the restoration and preservation of Hospital Santa Casa of Curitiba.

The Santa Casa of Curitiba is also a pioneer in Medical Education in Paraná State. Even before the foundation of the Federal University of Paraná by a group of idealists, in 1912, the Santa Casa has worked as Improvement Center to doctors of Paraná and Santa Catarina. Nowadays, the hospital is a reference in highly complex cardiology, research on stem cells, transplant, and bariatric surgery.

Structure: Currently the hospital has 283 beds and more than 830 employees work at the hospital. The Santa Casa performs monthly 1100 hospitalizations and 3400 prompt attendance, 80% of users via SUS, the free system offered by the government.
